This drill focuses on receiving the puck in awkward areas by opening the hips to receive the puck in tight.
Areas of focus:
- Ensure the passer is putting the puck into difficult to receive areas
- Receivers top hand must be away from the body to get the stick blade in tight to the body
The first progression of the drill works on the same fundamental skill of opening the hips to receive a pass, but is now received below the circle.
The second progression mimics a defenseman opening the hips to the pass at the offensive blueline, helping the defensman quickly transition from pass reception to shot.
